Just a short mention: I've heard tell that the 360 version has a higher consistent framerate. I didn't buy two copies so I cant rightly say... But has anyone else heard the same?

Yes, I have heard that the framerate on  the 360 stays at a constant 30fps, actually, I saw a video side by side showing it.  I've noticed a little framerate drop while I've been playing, but it has been on very close up shots, and doesn't affect the game play.

Here is another video comparing the graphics on both systems.  The PS# is definately sharper & cleaner, but the 360 version looks great to me as well.  People like to jump all over the 360 version because of the compression, but if I honestly don't know if I would be able to tell the difference between the two if I didn't see it side by side.

Just picked this up yesterday and am about 4 hours in.  The first hour or so I felt like I wan't going to like it at all.  Then it slowly starts to show you how to do different things and it starts to pick up nicely.  This is my first Final Fantasy game so I have had to learn how to enjoy the show.  I wasn't aware there would be so much dialog and cut scenes.  My first reaction was to skip them, but I am being pulled in to the story (even thought I don't really understand everything that is happening).

Likes:
The mini map up in the corner.  I like how it shows you with the little dots where you have been recently.  So once you finish a battle you don't back track
It is a very pretty game, they probably could have fit it on 1 DVD if not for the graphics which are outstanding
Learning curve is gradual.  It lets you get good with the basics and starts building on them
When you start is shows you a small recap of what happened prior to your last save
Combat animations are really cool and the post animations and phrases are good too
I like how they split you up into different groups and let you do different types of combat

Dislikes:
As others have said, it is very linear, there appears to be a huge world but so far I have little choice as to where a I can go
Some of the dialog is bad, there seems to be a lot of emo grunting and pouting
The part of the story I am in seems confusing, some of them are upset about the situation they find themselves in while other are not.
Not sure what to do with items in my inventory so I am saving everything, I guess that will come but seems strange right now
Not sure how to make my way around the Crystarium.  It says I have new levels available and I have CP, but everything seems to be maxed
For the most part the achievements are all hidden, it would be nice to see what types of activities the game rewards

All in all I am enjoying the game, like I said the graphics are beautiful and the combat is good so I can see myself putting more hours into this.

Is there any kind of online component?  Like stats or progression or anything.

Keep your items, as they will come in handy - Probably at about 15 hours in.

Not sure how to make my way around the Crystarium.  It says I have new levels available and I have CP, but everything seems to be maxed

When you are on the main crystarium screen, you will see the paradigms you can upgrade, and you'll see a list of things you can updgrade like:

HP - 1/5
Magic - 5/5
etc...

That is how you will know if you can upgrade something.  The orb will be glowing if you upgraded it.

I've considered picking this up, since I've never played any of the FF series but I'm quite interested in FF XIV online.  I thought maybe this would give me a little idea of what to expect from S-E as a developer.  I'm a huge MMORPG fan but not sure I'll dig the single player RPG scene.  I play for the interaction with other people mostly and how it changes the game constantly.

I've given up on this game.

I played about 35-40 hours of it, and had gotten to the open world, however, it was a case of "Too little, too late" for me.  I was interested to see how the story played out, but it took too long to go anywhere, and walking a couple of feet, start another battle got really old, and I found it a chore.  I took advantage of a high TIV ($45), and traded it in towards a DSi XL for my son for Easter.  I'll likely pick this up again later on down the road when the price drops significantly so I can finish it.

I think I am around 22 or 23 hours in.  I just got to the point where you can choose your own Battle Group.  Not sure if what else happens around that time is a spoiler or not, so i'll leave it out.

The drops are starting to get significantly better now as well.

I'm ready to get to this open world I keep hearing about!  I still find it engaging, even though I have little choice in what direction I can take.  I watch all of the cut scenes but am still more than a little foggy as to what the heck is going on story wise.

Anyone played both FFXIII and Lost Odyssey?
How do they compare, and which did you like better?

So does the world open up after a certain point? Is it worth spending the cash on to get? Or is this a "I'm bored three months from now maybe I'll go pick this up this weekend" kind of game...  Smile

Sorry I never saw this question.  I only got so far in the game before I got pulled away by other ones, but at some point I think the game opens up, from what others have posted.  I keep meaning to get back to this, I was really enjoying it.  If you can find it cheaper than when it first came out, I'd def pick it up.  Are you a fan of the series?  This was my first go at FF, and I like it, just other games caught my interest, but I do plan on starting this again sometime.
