Danke, Schultz.  I got her disposition to 88 and she wouldn't cooperate, but I'll try to jack it up a little more.  I'm at home today, taking the day off (*cough*), so I'll give it another run.  Some of these quests are stumpers...  

Speaking of which, there's an early House Hllallawalahalu quest where you're supposed to make a trip to see Aurenis Ferenis (?), an apothecary in Vivec, to get some alchemical formulas.  When I get there, she told me she wouldn't talk about that: "Those are secret."  

Maybe it's a disposition thing.  No one likes me.  Gosh, there's such a prejudice against barbarian axe-weilders around here.  I had an easier time as an elf...   Guess I'm going to have to start buttering people up.

I was an axe wielding Nord and had similar problems.  Seemed like you could just keep admiring until I got there, some seem to trigger above 90.  The admire thing takes longer but is a lot cheaper than bribing.

You need to steal one of her formulas (recipe scroll.)
There's one in plain sight on the table, one in a chest (locked and trapped) a the foot of the bed, and a third on Aurane Frernis herself if you're good at picking pockets.

There are spells and, potions for raising/fortifying your personality.
Use these, and raising people's dispostion is a lot easier.

This game is getting on my nerves.  I bribed Sottilde all the way to 100, but it didn't help.  So I resort to a Gamefaqs search.  I discover that Sottilde will not give me the code book since I joined her guild (which doesn't make much sense really ) -- apparently you can't belong to the Fighters and Thieves Guild at the same time.  So what I need to do is Taunt her until she fights me.  So I try to do that (and this is after multiple attmepts with other strategies), and it's a pain.  only one Taunt in 20 works.  Worse, even when the Taunt is a success, and she says "Shut up and Draw", nothing happens, she just stands there.  So finally I get bored of pressing the Taunt button and hack her up.  I get reported, and mobbed, but I run out the door and beg forgiveness from a local cop, who lets me off for 36 gold.  And then the game freezes.  

I give up.  She can keep her stupid codebook.
